3 Things Your child Needs To Master In Primary English
Throughout the primary years the National Curriculum has, at its heart, three key areas:
1.Fluency in number and the four operations
2. Use of mathematical reasoning
3. Problem solving
Number 1 is the absolute basis for numbers 2 and 3. Number 2 has to be good in order for your child to conquer number 3! So they all depend on each other, right through to GCSE. These broad areas remain the same throughout but it is their degree of complexity which changes. But children can be ready to take these challenges on if the foundation work in number has been covered.
3 Things Your child Needs To Master In Secondary English
1. Have the ability to read a wide breadth of literature for enjoyment and be able to understand their chosen texts.
2. Have the ability to write clear and coherent writing for a variety of purposes and be able to use Standard English confidently.
3. Work towards GCSE by being able to carry out detailed studies/crtiques of texts including Shakespeare, a 19th Century novel, a variety of poetry, and a piece of fiction or drama.
It is expected that pupils will be’ literate for life by the time they reach 16 having embraced all the above skills, but this programme is also a solid foundation for those wishing to study English at a higher level.
